“Two’s”
A submission for Voices for the Voiceless By: Axton N.O. Mitchell
They came for us in groups of twos, two for me, and two for you.
Just in case we weren’t as easy to overcome as what they thought,
and were taught.
They did not realize we live scared.
They did not realize we are always prepared.
They did not realize we had nothing to lose and everything to gain.
We live in fear, not of their God, or for being a sinner.
We care not they call our living wrong.
We live afraid, not of you per-say. It is the way you tend to act
in the face of humans who differ from you, you come unscrewed.
You form ill knowledgeable pacts, dead set on firing attacks.
Not with fists but knives and guns. Oh, little boys how
they like to have fun.
Your rulers make laws out of nonsense, from an uninformed stance.
In a haste with unintelligent fashion to separate them from us.
This time we better be fucking ready, Keep your goddamn aim steady!
Giving up could be the end of freedom for you, so you better see it through.
