The Essence of Poeaxtry – Meet Axton N. O. Mitchell:
Hello readers, critics, and perpetually perceived perpetrators privileged to be punished with me on this prison planet.
I’m Axton N. O. Mitchell, a poet, spiritualist, and multidisciplinary artist living in Ohio, currently. Born in 1991, and so far living in West Virginia, Virginia, Nevada, and Ohio. My work explores the intersections of life through literature, photography, digital collections, physical pieces, and spiritual creations.
The Essence of Poeaxtry was eroded and shaped by my lived experience. Through nuance like living as a transgender man, a son grieving, and as someone without a father. I curated my own map.
Other poetic lenses often filter pieces: the partner, the friend, the advocate, and more show up often together.
Now a new fictional form of work is joining my traditionally nonfictional theme along with a new type of self expression for me at least… Short Stories.
The essence of Poeaxtry: I’m a wordsmith at my core. My battle is one for minority voices & visions to be seen & heard, without forced politeness.
Through poetry, photography, spirituality, and perspective, I connect the world around me.
When I’m not writing, you’ll usually find me outside, often writing anyway.
Camping, hiking with my dog Luna, and moving through nature keep me grounded. The wild offers calm, and that calm feeds my creativity using what I love to further build the essence of Poeaxtry.
While the starving artist trope applies to those who live by words too. If you didn’t know, so I also work in healthcare far beyond a 9-5.
Uncover the essence of Poeaxtry through hikes paired with photography, and other digital art. Mixed with newsletters and project memos, reflections and emotional journals. All rooted in accessibility, with daily and spontaneous prompts, creator spotlights, collaboration opportunities, advocacy work, and ongoing community projects.
Consider this your access point to the essence of Poeaxtry & my creative world.
Much love always,
@Poeaxtry_
Axton N. O. Mitchell
Welcome to the fluffy side of chaos. Here poems are bare-knuckled and healing has no idea how to whisper, just like me!

The Essence of Poeaxtry- About Poeaxtry the Brand:
The Brand and creative identity behind all Poeaxtry and the Prism projects!
Poeaxtry_ is more than just a label and is much closer to a creative sanctuary. One where poetry meets activism, nature, and spirituality. Poeaxtry_ is rooted in truth and resilience. Beyond his written words, Poeaxtry_ embraces a wide world of passions. I spend my time rock hounding and hiking the trails with Luna. I enjoy spiritual practices like tarot and pendulum readings and I craft spiritual items for sale, and more. Together, all these pieces make up the multi-faceted creations that define Poeaxtry_. Every item here reflects layered authenticity and a commitment to truth.

Who helped my words take shape:
I dedicate every self-published book I have out ,and every book I will ever publish, to my mom. I describe my mom as my biggest fan. The one who believed in me, and the reason I learned how to keep going even when it felt impossible.
Honestly for most of my life it was just her and me against the world. I’d give anything to have her here with me even, for just a day.
For my sisters, my motivation and the reason I always want to do better. I need to give you what our parents never did. I love you both more than words will ever tell.
I write for my partner who has proven to me over and over again that I won’t ever be alone.
I also write for absence. One that you will find here often is the absence of Jake, my sperm donor. We do not speak, but that’s more for my mom may she rest in peace, than it is for anything else. I won’t give him the respect of calling him dad. Jake, who was never there. Every word, every page, every milestone I did it without you, and I’ll keep doing it, louder and prouder.
The only thing you gave me, a personality disorder. Will be the thing that makes me, watch you’ll see.
I write for my friends, ex friends, and past lovers. Without the feelings all of you have gift wrapped for me there would be nothing to write about.
This is for the trans kids and young adults who think they won’t make anything of themselves. You will. You already are. You’ve come this far! Coming out is a lot braver than you know. Just please stick around and see. If there’s something here for me then you too will have a destiny. The future or newer adults who right now might not know what their future holds, it’s still exists, trust me.
I write for the transgender people gone to soon like Sam Nordquist. Who would still be here if not for blatant hate.
I write because silence never saved me or anyone else… I write for change, for a better future for you and I and the Earth we share. I write because not all of us have a voice to use or the ability to use it safely. I write because I am sick and tired of being spoken for or worse erased.
If I disappear let it be in ink.
At least there I get to exist on my terms.
-Axton N.O. Mitchell
Poeaxtry’s Pulse Paving Pathways for People
Empowering through accessible art and fearless advocacy.
Poeaxtry is where the people are. Poeaxtry works towards being accessible where people actually are interacting and creating community.
Poeaxtry. People. Paganism. Planet.
“Art as a form of resistance and escape belongs in the hands of those who need it. It does not belong only those who can afford it.”
-Axton N.O. Mitchell
Art as Resistance and Accessibility:
My shop links & support options are included here. To offer easy access to the shops, donation options, and free downloads.
I’m not going to tell you I don’t know the struggle of the starving artist.
But, I will also never place a barrier between my art and those who need it, another layer of the essence of Poeaxtry.
Please email me @ Poeaxtry@gmail to discuss bartering or trading.
I want to point out that I do often use art as an umbrella term for visual, literary, and physical creations.
This isn’t just art. It’s Community.
The Essence of Poeaxtry:
Breaking Barriers & Amplifying Voices & Visions of Marginalized Individuals
This space will stay rooted in the work itself and the individuals behind the work, this is something you can take to the bank. The importance of the essence of Poeaxtry is the words, voices, and vision behind it all.
I stand firmly against the idea that art should only belong to those who have enough play, monopoly monies.
As an anti-capitalist creator, I believe in art and lit as a form of resistance. Art should be accessible, honesty, and healing.
Not as a luxury accessible to only those with enough commas in their banks.

Making Poetry & Art Accessible
We all know money makes the world turn, it is the sad truth. As someone
working over 70 hours a week in healthcare, I get it.
I also manage my own website, publishing press, and business.
I live that reality daily. I keep every e-book I offer priced as low as possible.
The most expensive title is $15.99 before tax. These full collections have 50-100 poems included.
My e-books are also available for free to Kindle Unlimited subscribers.
I know even a few extra dollars can feel impossible. Between kids,
car repairs, unexpected bills, illness, or just the daily struggle to stay afloat shit gets tight.
Because of that, I offer my e-books for free to anyone who needs them in exchange for
honest reviews. Fill out this form to be a reviewer or email me @ poeaxtry@gmail.com with questions or concerns.
The essence of Poeaxtry is found in my belief of keeping art accessible, especially for minority voices and
those historically shut out of literary spaces.
Art and Literature should not belong only to those who can afford it.
While, actually it should belong to anyone who finds a piece of themselves inside it regardless of which path they use to access it.

What We Stand For
Values, Boundaries, and ZERO tolerance for bigotry.
Built on Self-Care, Safety, & Truth
Welcome to the Misfit Mascaraed.
This is what Community means to The Essence of Poeaxtry.
A space that was born from survival, built from grief, and shaped by fire.
This is not neutral; it is not passive.
Poeaxtry is a place for truth. Tenderness. This is growth that refuses to harm others on the way there.
Balance, Boundaries, & Bigotry in the Essence of Poaxtry
Here are the things I will not tolerate in the community, collaborations, submissions, or any space connected to Poeaxtry & the Prism.
This applies whether it happens inside my community or in outside spaces. I do not separate my morals from my work. If you are a person who does these acts, I have no space for you. This applies to every aspect of The Essence of Poeaxtry.
Deal breakers:
Submissions, creative projects, solo publishings, and statements with evidence to back them that involve any of the below will be declined or removed.
- Racism, colorist statements, or xenophobia including Islamophobia, anti-immigrant hate, and dehumanization of Palestinians or those supporting Gaza
- Transphobia, homophobia, or queer erasure
- Abelisim or mocking of mental illness or disability
- Misogyny,
toxic masculinity, or gender-based violence - Fatphobia or body shaming
- White saviorism or trauma exploitation for aesthetics
- AI-generated creative writing or art passed off as human-made
- Plagiarism, stolen work, dishonesty, or Cultural Appropriation
- Religious extremism that dehumanizes others
- Hate speech, slurs, threats, or dehumanization of any kind
- Classism and creative elitism – shaming those without formal education, access, or resources
- Tokenism or performative inclusion – using marginalized creators for optics
without structural care or support - Cultural appropriation or artistic theft from communities not your own
- Environmental exploitation when it dismisses Indigenous land, natural destruction, or extractive practices
Slut shaming: we honor sensuality, sex work, erotic expression, and intimacy as valid forms of art and storytelling. They become survival only when rooted in truth and not exploitation.
This includes external organizations, publishers, or communities whose values do not align.
Even if a platform, person, or group is not part of this space, I will not partner with them. I will not join if they are actively harmful. My ethics don’t pause at the page.
What We Want to See
If you’re here to share your truth and hold space for others
you are welcome, exactly as you are.
Work that’s vulnerable, imperfect, and honest

Consent is non-negotiable! Romantic, sexual, and emotional boundaries, must be honored.
Intersectional justice and lived experience
Creative Individuals who lead with empathy, humility, and care

Our Commitment to Community
We have denied partnerships and collaborations from authors who have defended terfs publicly.
If you silently turn a blind eye to hate and phobias we can’t work with you.
We offer priority visibility to all minorities including but not limited to (and in no order) individuals who are:
disabled, neurodivergent, BIPOC (other racial or ethnic minorities), impoverished (economic & social), migrants, immigrants, felons, LGBT individuals, religious minorities, sex workers, abuse survivors, elderly, plus sized (fatphobia resistance), and more.
Any party having issue with our stance on balance, boundaries, and bigotry need not apply to create with or in the space of Axton N. O. Mitchell or Poeaxtry_ & the Prism.
Submissions violating these simple yet ethical guidelines will be removed without response. The submitter will be added to a DO NOT partner with list. Our time and space are sacred, so respect is a must.

Community in Poeaxtry & the Prism’s Terms – Joining the Safe Space Alliance:
About the Safe Space Alliance
The Essence of Poeaxtry is rooted in our dedication to amplifying all minority voices and experiences through literature, visual art, and creativity.
To put these values into practice, Poeaxtry created “The Prism” (aka Poeaxtry’s & the Prism).
By joining the Safe Space Alliance, Poeaxtry solidifies our stance with LGBTQIA+ communities worldwide. As a transgender man, it’s important to me to continue to foster spaces where identity, expression, and safety are honored. Find out here what this means , how to get involved, and what’s going on globally with SSA.
This is not silent agreeable advocacy.
It is a commitment to care, visibility, and action.
A digital sanctuary for poets, artists, and advocates. Built for connection, collaboration, contest, community,
and fearless self-expression. This is a queer-affirming space that is inclusive of all minorities.
Here creativity and safety coexist.
We decided to also launch Poeaxtry & the Prism as an inclusive, independent publishing press that is
dedicated to uplifting the literature, art, and creative projects of marginalized communities.
Now available across Discord, Revolt, and Twitch.
The Prism like Poeaxtry_ meets people where they are.
Offering a flexible, inclusive environment. To get involved in without being forced into any
single platform, or a single creative medium.
Solidifying Saftey in Skillfully-Creative Spaces
Built on care, safety, and truth, Poeaxtry & the Prism’s commitment to inclusion extends beyond art.
This is an act of protection and persistence.
We joined the Safe Space Alliance (SSA), a global LGBTQIA+ nonprofit. The SSA connects and supports verified safe spaces worldwide. By doing so, we strengthen our dedication to creating safer, visible, and accessible spaces for all.
Here, safety is not a symbol, it is sustained practice.
Our verified website and Discord hub uphold zero tolerance for bigotry. Our safe spaces uphold clear accessibility standards. We respect every identity and pronoun.
Joining SSA means standing beside thousands of spaces across the world that protect and uplift LGBTQIA+ individuals. Through this alliance, you can:
- Get involved by listing your own safe space (digital, physical, or creative).
- Learn more about global SSA projects and current initiatives.
- Support advocacy through volunteering, partnership, or donation.
Every connection we make, whether it is through a poem, a post, or a shared moment, is important. It becomes a part of a larger global fabric of care.
Together, we’re shaping a creative world where:
identity, safety, and art coexist without compromise.
The Prism supports every step of your creative journey. Writers, visual artists, and other creators can share work,
get feedback, and develop their craft. Members can choose personalized roles for engagement. They control when and how they join in. Participation can range from giving feedback, interacting in competitions, sharing muses and more.
